Heweens Quetant, of Boston, was driving a family member's black 2019 Honda Civic when he crashed into a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe at top speed, killing 46-year-old Michael Wojdag, of Hanson, shortly before 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19 according to the Massachusetts State Police.

After the crash, which occurred on Route 93 North in Braintree, the Civic's five occupants remained on the scene to be interviewed by police, but Quetant provided incorrect information, police suggest.

Police originally theorized that the crash was the fault of two unknown vehicles who were racing and pushed Quetant's Civic into Wojdag, shoving both cars off the road and killing Wojdag.

An investigation into witness statements, electronic evidence, and physical evidence led to a preliminary crash reconstruction which demonstrated that Quetant was driving at 120 mph in the right lane of I-93 North when he crashed into the passenger side of the SUV, which was traveling 75 mph in the second lane from the right.

Witness testimony suggests that Quetant was racing an unknown vehicle before the crash.

Police arrested Quetant in the early afternoon of Wednesday, March 8 at his home on Washington Street in Roslindale.

Quetant is charged with:

  • Motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation
  • Reckless operation of a motor vehicle
  • Racing a motor vehicle
  • Witness intimidation

A GoFundMe created for Wojdag's family has raised almost $100,000 at the time of publishing.

A 45-year-old woman and a teenage boy who were also in the SUV with Wojdag were hospitalized after the crash. The Civic's five occupants were not injured.

Quetant was arraigned on Wednesday, March 8 in Quincy District Court and was ordered to be held on $25,000 cash bail.

Police continue to investigate the identity of the driver who Quetant was racing before the crash.
